Aurifil Cotton 50wt - Your best piecing and applique thread

Made from 100% Mercerised Long Staple Egyptian Cotton, Aurifil's Mako 50wt is their thinnest and finest weight thread. It's the perfect choice for piecing and helps you to achieve a scant quarter-inch seam. The fine nature of the thread also allows it to blend with your fabric, making your stitch-in-the-ditch sewing almost invisible!

We love using Aurifil Cotton 50wt for...

Machine Piecing: Gives a great result with a nice flat seam every time. Helps you achieve your perfect quarter-inch seams.

Machine Quilting: Perfect for stitch-in-the-ditch because the fine weight allows the stitches to become almost invisible. Also fantastic for quilting that creates texture when you don’t necessarily want to see the quilting lines as a main feature, and for very detailed machine quilting with a lot of back tracking.

Machine Applique: Ideal when a very fine finish is desired, this weight of thread disappears so your fabric is the feature. Use for a straight stitch, small zig zag, blind hemming or blanket stitch.

Hand Applique: Ideal for all types of hand applique, including needle turning, the 50wt is fine enough to create almost invisible stitches when desired.

Hand Piecing: A great weight for hand piecing.

Longarm Quilting: Perfect for creating texture where you don’t want the thread to be a feature. Ideal for backgrounds, stitch in the ditch, basting quilts, wholecloth quilting, and micro quilting for dense background designs.

  • Max washing temperature 60°C
  • No tumble drying in warm air
  • Keep the machine clean while stitching. Brush the lint away from the needle every time you change the top thread. Clean out the bobbin area regularly.
