How does it work?

After extensive development and testing, the BERNINA Stitch Regulator was patented as a unique innovation that is still unparalleled today. Reacting to the movement of the fabric, the BSR adjusts the speed of of the machine automatically when free-motion quilting with the feed dog lowered.

Activating the Bernina Stitch Regulator is as simple as attaching the accessory to your BSR compatible machine, lowering the feed dogs and selecting the mode of your choice. Set the stitch length according to your preference for the technique and hand and you are ready to sew.

With the aid of technology, the BSR system reads (similar to a wireless mouse) the surface of the fabric under the presser foot. A sensor transfers information to the sewing machine as the material is moved. The sewing machine calculates the necessary sewing speed in order to sew consistent stitches according to the set stitch length. A slower needle movement and motor speed is required if the material is moved slowly. A faster needle movement and motor speed is needed for faster fabric movement. The BSR in tandem with the sewing machine, automatically adjusts to the sewer's speed for even and consistent stitching.
