Baby Lock Sashiko
Baby Lock’s Sashiko machine imitates the ancient Japanese technique of Sashiko, giving a unique hand-stitched look. With variable stitch length/spacing and controls for foot pressure/height adjustment, you can create beautiful unique items
The Baby Lock Sashiko is a specialised sewing machine which produces just one type of stitch – the sashiko stitch.
Sashiko is an old Japanese hand stitching tradition that emerged over a thousand years ago (“sashiko” means “little stabs”). The Baby Lock Sashiko imitates this hand stitching technique by using an ingenious needle system and just one thread wound on a bobbin, giveing a unique hand-stitched look which is beautiful and distinctive on many projects such as clothing, home décor items, and quilts.
The Baby Lock Sashiko sews with a single thread that is guided in and out automatically to produce the characteristic stitch pattern. You can vary the stitch length and stitch spacing between 2 mm and 5 mm, even while sewing, to create eye-catching effects and give your sewing and quilting projects the individual touch. Speciality stitch mode gives complete control over single stitches.
A 230mm wide space to the right of the needle and a well-illuminated sewing area help you handle even voluminous sewing projects confidently and with ease (there is also an optional 18” x 24” extension table available for this machine to make things even easier).
If you are using a thicker material, or a fuller batting for your quilt, simply adjust the presser foot higher to avoid creasing. The height adjustment allows free-flow sewing and ease of turning fabric, stitching circles, squares and other shapes for complete control. You can also easily adjust the presser foot pressure to suit the thickness of your quilt sandwich.
Important controls are arranged for ease of access. The levers to adjust stitch length and spacing are on the machine front. In addition to the presser foot pressure dial on the top of the machine head and presser foot height dial on the side, there’s also a key to check the needle position. When you stop sewing the corresponding LED lights are illuminated making it clear exactly whether the needle is creating a stitch or a space, or in the threading position. No matter whether you are at the top or bottom position, you can change the needle's position any time at the press of a button.
The side loading, oscillating bobbin system is conveniently placed for fast and easy loading. You can easily prepare multiple bobbins for projects by winding each one on the built-in bobbin winder. The handy accessory compartment on the left of the machine keeps all important tools and accessories close at hand.
Do't let the size or complexity of your projects be dictated by time or physical constraints. Let centuries of hand-stitched tradition combined with amazing technology inspire your creativity, with the Baby Lock Sashiko!

Precise Sashiko Stitches The Baby Lock Sashiko has a special needle with an open eye that is opened and closed through a latch wire system. This ingenious system catches the thread that is wound up on the bobbin every second time the needle pierces the fabric to form defined stitches with the help of the latch wire. Thanks to this fantastic technology, the Sashiko can imitate the look of traditional hand-work stitching
Speciality Stitch Mode Complete control of stitch and spacing is essential for decorative techniques such as braiding, couching, cross-stitching and adding trims. Now with the specialty stitch mode, a complete cycle of one single stitch and space allows the control you need when single stitch sewing is desired.
Presser foot pressure adjustment This adjustment defines whether the presser foot rests firmly on the fabric or makes an up-and-down movement while you are sewing, thus preventing the formation of creases in front of the presser foot.
