The side-loading bobbin allows for easy access and is industrial-sized, holding 1.4X more thread than a standard bobbin.

When sewing with average weights of thread, the automatic thread cutter can be accessed via the thread cutter button, making the end of each seam that much easier to finish. In addition you can purchase a remote thread cutter for heavy threads, and attach it via the compatible socket. The management of heavier weight threads is also helped with the new Heavy Duty Thread Guide.

The large work area, powerful foot pressure and strong needles (HL type only for this machine) allow you to tackle home décor and leather crafts with beautiful seams and top-stitching when using heavy weight threads on denim, vinyl, canvas or leather.

Strong, quiet and smooth while sewing at high speeds
1,600 stitches per minute make the HD9 the fastest home-use machine on the market. The words durable, quiet and smooth are synonymous with Janome. This is made possible in the HD9 by engineering the machine with eight enclosed ball bearings contained in the main shaft of the machine. Ball bearings may have not been at the top of your list of necessary features, but it will end up being your favorite after sewing on the HD9 and experiencing how it feels

Presser foot pressure
The HD9 provides up to 11lbs (5 kgs) of pressure from the presser foot. This allows you to power through even the thickest layers of fabric without shifting Janome America have produced two videos' demonstratiog this machine's ability to "sew over the hump", and to sew through 16 layers of denim!

Extra large bobbin
The side-loading Jumbo Bobbin holds 40% more thread than normal bobbins. The all-metal bobbin case and hook rotate a full 360°, resulting in precise and dependable stitching

Heavy Weight Thread Guide
Janome developed the Heavy Weight Thread Guide (takes up to 20 weight thread) with Variable tension adjustment for better thread and stitch control for all weights of thread. The HWTG Stabilizes thread tension when sewing through thick fabrics like leather, cork or other heavy duty fabrics

Independent bobbin winding motor
With an independent bobbin motor, there is no need to stop your sewing. Set up your bobbin, push the Bobbin Winding button and keep sewing your seams while the machine simultaneously winds your bobbin.

Automatic Thread Cutter
The HD9 is a perfect blend of industrial strength and speed, but provides some of the “softer” features of home use machines. The Automatic Thread Cutter is one of these features. When sewing with average weights of thread, automatic thread cutting can be accessed via the thread cutter button or the remote thread cutter - making the end of each seam that much easier to finish

Streamlined design
The seamless, heavy-duty, powder-coated, all-metal flatbed of the HD9 offers an uninterrupted, large bed area of 12.25 inches (311mm) x 7" (178mm) to accomodate even the largest of projects with no catching or pulling of fabrics. Couple this enhanced work space with the improved closed bed design thats eliminated the need for lubrication holes, a feature unique to Janome, for a streamlined machine providing a cleaner workspace and keeping your fabric pristine.

Knee lift
The knee lift lets you raise and lower the presser foot without taking your hands off your work. Quilters will love this feature!

Memorised needle up/down
This useful feature lets you control the needle’s position at the end of the stitch. UP to move your fabric; DOWN for corners and pivots
